It would be more doable to name the Aston Villa players that weren't listed in a transfer rumor away from B6. Among the many headlines, outlets had Ollie Watkins linking up with Mikel Arteta at Arsenal. Even in the unequal applications of PSR, there are only so many options at the disposal for clubs to explore.

Fabrizio Romano shared on X that Viktor Gyökeres would be the one instead to soon be able to call himself a Gunner. The Swedish striker does not have a firm deal in place yet, but the player has stated his desire to join Arsenal and has already expressed dialogue that has taken place between him and the Premier League side.

For the time being, a final agreement will still be needed from Sporting's perspective. In any event, this now appears to be a matter of when rather than if in terms of where Gyökeres will be playing during the upcoming season.

All-time Aston Villa leader in goals to remain

What this should absolutely put an end to are any claims of Watkins going to Arsenal. There was something of a collective, unquestioned philosophy among fans and the media that Villa players would be available and that the top clubs would be able to have their selection of the squad. It is relatively safe to assume now that despite the strength and insistence of some that Watkins would be receiving passes during club play from Declan Rice, Arsenal will not be able to add both the English striker and Gyökeres.

Fortunately for those who peddle these irresponsible claims, there is never a need for anything resembling an apology or a retraction for flatly making stuff up for content. Regardless of the current lack of journalistic integrity, Villa fans, who may still be nervous over the lack of incoming players, can find solace in the continued stay of Watkins at the club.
