When players like Robin Olsen leave their clubs the way the Swede has, there is far from anything resembling backlash. Instead, fans appreciate and wish for the best for a keeper who has remained loyal and done everything that he was asked for Villa.
It is not an easy task being the No. 2 option. While most of the week's and matchday preparations involve preparing the starter, in this case the world's No. 1, Emiliano Martínez, Olsen also has a lot to manage.
Making sure Martínez is ready is the priority, but the Sweden international also has to be ready on a moment's notice. That taxing dread of not seeing regular minutes while knowing that at any minute Unai Emery and the side will need the absolute apex best from you can be a difficult balance to achieve.
Olsen, however, has done so admirably during his time at B6 since officially joining Villa from AS Roma in 2022.
Parting message for Aston Villa number two
In a message originally shared on Instagram, Olsen gave fans a glimpse into how much his time at Villa has meant to him. In part of his message, he stated:
"I want to thank everyone at the club for their support during my time here... I leave with great memories and wish Aston Villa continued success in the future."
Now returning to his childhood Malmö FF club, there is only positivity between the player, fans, and Villa. It is more than understandable for Olsen to want to play first-team minutes as a starter. His returning to a club that holds a special place for him makes it that much easier to cheer for the keeper as he moves on to the next chapter of his life.
The ill will, drama, and seemingly sudden desire to wipe away a former player of the club from memory are not present in a case like Olsen's, where the GK handled everything with class.
