It can sometimes become too obvious when media members and fans online discuss Aston Villa who haven't been actually paying attention to the club. The disingenuous starting point in how the business of Villa is often initiated fails to tell anything resembling the full story on most occasions.
The latest comes from the Mail Sport. In one of their latest pieces, the headline reads, 'Aston Villa are in the hunt for a new goalkeeper this summer, casting doubts over World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez's future.'
Not only does the article go on to mention the need to replace the soon-departing Robin Olsen, but it then further speculates that the need for PSR maneuverment will require Martinez to be among the potential selling options.
In reality, Martinez's place at Villa couldn't be safer. The keeper is under contract until June of 2029. Not that players with years left on their deals haven't been sold before. There just isn't a reason, whatsoever, for AVFC to move off the Argentinian.
Anyone being brought in is to replace Olsen and would be a developmental project to potentially take over the starting role. Such a change of the No. 1 status, however, wouldn't take place until years down the line.
In reality, Villa are doing their due diligence. Every club should be looking for quality at all positions. In the unfortunate event that Martinez were forced to miss time, Unai Emery would need to be able to turn to a reliable option.
Why Aston Villa need a good No. 2 option
As is, the Argentinian could afford to take more matches off than he has been anyway. It's understandable, of course, that he wants to play. He's earned his starting role and has cemented his status as the top GK in the world. Naturally, he wants to play every chance that he can get.
Even so, the Villa boss may want to give something of an increased run time to either someone who is brought in or someone who rises through the ranks with the first team.
Either way, despite the joyous predictions of those hoping for the Villans' worst-case scenario, Martinez at AVFC is a certainty.
