It has to be remembered that there are always any number of options available to players throughout the world. Now at Aston Villa, Evann Guessand had the chance to join a Saudi-based club. He, instead, chose to stay at Nice at the time, which ultimately led to his joining the claret and blue.
When given his reasoning as to joining Villa, however, the new attacker made some comments that speak highly of the Villa supporters and the type of environment that is present at Villa Park during matches.
As shared by Birmingham Live's John Townley, the Champions League atmosphere against PSG at VP left quite the impression on Guessand. For the attacker, watching how Villa Park fueled the second-leg win and the way in which the grounds gave off a tremendous amount of energy were appealing. After that match, Guessand felt the need to not only be a part of the Premier League, but he also knew that Villa would be his preferred choice.
This speaks well to Guessand as a competitor in a couple of different areas. For one, he could have easily joined a Saudi League side. While the level of play is not quite at the same point as in Europe, there are still a decent amount of chances and different types of exposure for players in that league.
Add to that the money tends to be significantly better; someone turning down a potential offer from the Saudi League shows how much more important other aspects are than just the personal finances.
Encouraging sign from new Aston Villa signing
Second of all, by making Villa the top choice, it shows a willingness to work hard and compete for notoriety as a young player. It is known what disadvantages there are for clubs that are not a part of the 'big six.'
Guessand has chosen to join Unai Emery's side and will now look to contribute to a team whose supporters inspired him to want to come to the EPL.
