Just because Aston Villa have not been able to make additions to the roster the way other Premier League sides have cannot be used as an excuse as to why the side has failed to score through two matches.
It happens, of course. Over the course of 90 minutes, sometimes the chances simply do not fall in. This has not been the case, however. Perhaps more concerning is the fact that Villa have not been able to threaten the goal much at all. For a side that has the likes of Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, Youri Tielemans, and John McGinn, one would expect to see a little more going forward.
To this point things have not clicked in the attack.
There were positive elements witnessed during the preseason. It appeared that a lot of the concepts and cohesiveness from the past season were beginning to carry over in the current campaign. That has not been the case as of yet, but that does not mean that things cannot be turned around.
Important test for Aston Villa
After all, this is the same corps that did exceptionally well. With a Saturday fixture against Crystal Palace, Villa supporters will hope to see the attack come more alive. There is the added important aspect of not wanting to fall too much further behind in the standings. With an unbeaten streak at Villa Park on the line, the more important aspect to monitor will be that of how Unai Emery's men look with the ball.
Against Brentford, for example, Villa did enjoy a fair share of the possession. They will need to have that progress turn into something more positive that at least troubles the keeper.
For some, it will mean having Donyell Malen either coming off the bench earlier or outright being a member of the starting XI. Either way, Villa will need to show more going forward.
