It seemed that Marco Asensio's history at Aston Villa had officially reached its conclusion. After a loan spell during the 2024-2025 campaign, it was believed that it would be too much of a strain on the already difficult financial situation for Villa to be able to secure the services of the Spaniard again.
Then, Asensio appeared to be well on his way to Fenerbahçe. Through complications, however, the door remains open to the possibility for Villa to still secure him.
Especially when considering the overall lack of activity from this year's transfer window, most Villa supporters would be highly enthusiastic if the club were to yet find a way to bring Asensio back to B6.
When he was in the claret and blue, he often provided the needed spark and edge required to break down opposing backlines. The fact that PSG is so willing to let him go only speaks to the good job that the Ligue 1 side has done in accumulating talent and building out their roster.
In truth, Asensio is currently being overlooked. As someone with Premier League and Champions League experience, Asensio would provide a significant boost for most, if not all, EPL sides.
Current need for Aston Villa attack
Still, as things stand now, likely due to the desire of Villa to bring someone on and the most recent prior history of the player with the club, there appears to be a strong inside track for Villa to be able to seal some business for Asensio before the end of the transfer deadline.
It remains to be seen what that will ultimately look like, but if Villa are able to reintroduce Asensio, especially when looking at how the first couple of matches have unfolded, it would appear that Asensio is exactly who Villa need at the moment.
