There is a lot to like about how the PSR situation ended up unfolding for Aston Villa. With the most immediate consequences avoided and only a potential fine in the works regarding SCR, the club is in a good spot at the moment. It is the latter, SCR, that does bring an element of unfortunate news for supporters.

Many were excited over the prospect of potentially reintroducing Marcus Rashford or Marco Asensio to B6 for the 2025-2026 campaign. Due to the need to lower wages, however, it appears that the likelihood is incredibly small, if not gone altogether. Certainly, it will always be possible for Unai Emery or Monchi to figure something out and produce some magic to make something happen.

That is not likely to mean the signing of the two players who joined on loan during the last season. An additional loan spell would have remained an option. This is especially true for Rashford, whose parent club, Manchester United, is willing to hear any and all offers to be able to move on. The issue of wages would come up again, even in the event of a loan spell, and that appears to be too much of an undertaking for Villa at the moment.

Rather than clinging on to the possibility of that happening, instead, it is more appropriate to appreciate what Rashford and Asensio gave to Villa while they were here.

Appreciating what they did while at Aston Villa

2024-2025 was an incredibly fun season during the heat of the action. There was legitimate hope and a lot of promise. Even with things ending without silverware, it was a year that Villa can proudly look back on. The efforts of Asensio and Rashford played a large part in boosting the attack. Their quality allowed for Emery to have a veteran option to turn to to find success in breaking down the opposing backline.

The two will now move on. It is unknown which club will end up signing either Asensio or Rashford. For what both did while at Villa, supporters will always be grateful for their contributions this past season.
