It must continuously be said, despite the multitude of social media posts claiming otherwise, Aston Villa has yet to receive an offer from Manchester United for Emiliano Martínez. This doesn't, however, mean that a different club or Ruben Amorim's side couldn't later change their current assessment of the keeper situation and later make a move for 'Dibu.'

In an ever-changing transfer landscape, certainly anything is possible.

What these discussions could lead to is a conversation around what direction Villa would turn to if Martínez were to leave, for whatever reason, this summer.

Yes, there is a certain level of comfort at the club, knowing that the Argentina international stands between the posts for the matches. His potential departure has sparked a wide range of intense emotions.

For some, the prospect of replacing Martínez with Lucas Chevalier is one that would go a long way toward easing the pain of the Villa No. 1's exit if that were to take place later on.

By all accounts, Chevalier is a top, young, emerging keeper. Currently at Lille, he is an option that should realistically be receiving more interest from the top clubs in Europe. In that regard, Villa are ahead of the curve with their interest and the links showing the desire to turn to the Frenchman if Martínez ends up deciding to try a change in scenery from B6.

While it would be entirely premature, there would be something of a similarity between a future Chevalier acquisition and that of when Martínez arrived from Arsenal. The talent is there, but most are not as aware of the Lille keeper as they should be.

Aston Villa is in good hands either way

Give him a couple of years at Villa, and there would be a good chance of Chevalier being developed into one of the better options in the world.

One aspect is certain. Regardless of who ends up playing at Villa, whether a field player or otherwise, they will be in a system that cultivates growth and development. Unai Emery will be able to help anyone who stays and enters the club to achieve the best versions of themselves. His and the staff's record has consistently borne that out.
