Losing Emiliano Martínez would mean more than being without the world's No. 1 at Aston Villa. 'Dibu' has come to mean so much at the club. Watching the keeper walk away now, during the peak of his powers at the position, would be a difficult undertaking for supporters to bear.
This would particularly be the case if Martínez were to end up going to Manchester United. Although, to this point, there has not been anything credible or legitimately substantial that points to this being in the works as of yet.
Villa fans would be much more accepting and would honestly wish him well if Martínez were to take advantage of an offer from a Saudi League team or another European contender. Eventually, all players have to step away from Villa Park for the last time.
To do so now doesn't quite feel right. Then, to potentially do so for United would be considerably worse. A move of that extent would shift the mood from a sad farewell to that of an almost-hostile wave of ill will toward the Argentina international.
It remains unknown what exactly will transpire before the beginning of the upcoming campaign.
While Martínez is still very much a Villan, his contributions and help in further growing the club to reach its current heights cannot be overstated. His personality and the way he boldly presents himself on the pitch and accepts the responsibility of drawing the ire from the opposition are aspects that would be immediately missing if he were to leave.
For now, Martínez remains at Aston Villa
Martínez has undoubtedly played an immense part in the uptick in form that Villa fans have witnessed, and there is a reason why so many have reacted the way that they have after reading about the potential rumors of his leaving for Manchester.
Until, however, something significant happens in regard to Martínez's future, he is the Villa No. 1.
