There are certain players that realistically should not even be considered for a departure from Aston Villa. Yes, everyone ultimately has a price, but even if that demanded amount were to be met, some players simply mean more to the club than however much a potential transfer fee were to end up being.
According to BirminghamLive's Jacob Tanswell, Everton are interested in luring John McGinn from Villa. The appeal from the Toffees is understandable enough. McGinn is someone every side wants to have in their dressing room, and he only knows one way. He gives it his all every time that he steps foot on the pitch.
The post on X also shared that Villa are not especially interested in letting McGinn go at this time. And that is realistically what the expectation should be in terms of a potential move. Anything could always happen. More likely than not, not too much else will come as a result of this initial inquiry from Everton.
To part ways with McGinn after Villa has managed to overcome the financial concerns and to then sell the Villa skipper would be something that does not make sense with what the plan appears to have been all along.
Not keeping McGinn now does not make sense for Aston Villa
The club wanted to have a minimal summer and do everything possible to keep the corps and those already on the squad in B6. There is not too much of a reason to part ways with that mentality and approach now.
It has been, to this point, a carefully laid out and methodical plan for the club. Because the stages are working and Villa are seeing positive progressions from the financial troubles, it seems unlikely to do anything this earthshattering.
Ultimately, everyone, including McGinn, will have to leave the club one day. If there were someone to select, though, to retire down the road as a Villan, many would happily see it be McGinn.
