There continues to be talk regarding the departure of Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martínez. Journalist Gastón Edul is the latest to share and contribute to the belief that 'Dibu' will be joining Manchester United. According to Edul, negotiations are already underway, and based on what he's saying, the deal is close to being finalized.
Based on the words from the reporter, there has been a quick change of heart from United after spending the entirety of the summer being committed to André Onana, meaning that there wouldn't also be a need to add Martínez. As things stand now, Onana is still at the club, and there would be a competition (that most would expect Martínez to comfortably win) unless United look to find a late suitor for their current keeper.
Considering teams are more immediately getting ready for the beginning of the year at this point, to have this sudden change does not fit the timeline. Especially considering United weren't in the FIFA Club World Cup, this delay is odd in terms of why the club would make a move for the Argentina international now.
Players were just seen returning back to Bodymoor. Martínez was among the Villans who showed up again, seemingly enjoying being back in B6.
Not moving on from Aston Villa
Although there can be moves that occur late on, it seems unlikely that Martínez would insist now on leaving Villa. Add that United is now fairly late in the season preparation stages. There isn't enough to suggest that this latest report is more valid than any of the other speculations that have been written regarding the current Villa players.
Martínez is still a Villan. Certainly, there will always be a chance of the keeper leaving the club at some point. Not now, not to United. There isn't a reason to believe that this move is desired by the world's number one.
