It was one of the more popular propaganda pieces to push against Aston Villa. For a couple of weeks straight, Emiliano Martínez was slated to be anywhere else except at Villa. Naturally, Manchester United was a popular destination throughout all the noise, especially when looking at their keeper situation.

Looking now, with the return of everyone to Bodymoor, the Argentina international could be seen back at the grounds, ready to stand between the posts for the club.

Any number of things could have been said behind the scenes. With the wide range of gossip and otherwise, it would be impossible to accurately say what actually was or wasn't true.

Regardless, 'Dibu' is at Villa. The world's number one is staying in the claret and blue.

It is possible that Martínez may have considered a move. From his perspective, he knows that the club will happily move on from him one day. His preference, however, will always have been to stay in the Premier League and at Villa if possible. While that was his primary desire, he also knows that a lot of other aspects will always be beyond his immediate control.

Now that the summer transfer saga involving him, specifically to United, is over, however, it is only right to continue to embrace and support Martínez for the incredible player that he is.

Need to give Aston Villa no. 1 benefit of doubt

Some may feel bitter about Martínez's 'near-departure.' It is important to remember that nothing of substance actually came of those talks and that it isn't exactly his fault that the tabloids and media at large elected to use his name to alleviate their boredom during the June and July months.

Martínez is a Villan. It is time to put the silly summer season of gossip behind and look forward to what 'Dibu' does for Villa following the Newcastle match this upcoming season.
