Thomas Tuchel managed his first dominant and impressive win as the England manager. Up to this point, the German had been under criticism for not bringing the expected change that fans were hoping for upon his appointment. Facing a more difficult Serbia team compared to what the Three Lions had faced up to this point, the players responded and put together a strong performance away from home soil.

While there should be questions asked as to how Harry Kane found himself all alone in the penalty area on a Declan Rice corner kick, the captain nodded home the first goal on the way to a 5-0 victory.

Receiving a start on the day, Rogers made an excellent case for himself to receive the starting XI designation more often for England. The Aston Villa midfielder displayed the needed creativity and technical ability to break down opposing defenses.

An aspect that needs to be considered is that although this was seen as a bigger test for England before the match, Serbia remained in a more defensive shape and looked to be willing to attempt to steal a win in a low-scoring affair.

After Kane's goal, however, Rogers unlocked the backline with an incredible flick that found Noni Madueke to double the lead. This is the type of effort that Tuchel had been asking for. The England manager wants to see the players take more risks and be willing to try things that ultimately lead to proper goal-scoring chances.

Other contributions from Aston Villa players

Villa, overall, had a good day on the pitch as Ezri Konsa slotted home his first goal for England with a left-footed effort that resulted from a set-piece situation.

Ollie Watkins entered the fray shortly following a Marc Guéhi goal and won a penalty through a good overlapping link-up between him and Marcus Rashford. The former Villa player converted, and the final whistle signified the end of what had been a good evening for both England and the participating Villans.
