It has been an interesting start to the Thomas Tuchel era for England. While the Three Lions have yet to lose, there is an overall uneasiness regarding the side. England was expected to win the first couple of fixtures in which Tuchel was in charge of. Still, the style and lack of the needed punch in the attack is something that is concerning for some supporters, particularly knowing what is coming against some of the better national teams.
Yet, the German manager expressed his optimism ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Serbia. Tuchel mentioned that he felt the mood and willingness of the players were good enough to allow him to feel good about the increased prospects of what England is capable of.
Set to face the toughest challenge so far when they travel to Serbia. So far, England has managed to eke out victories, but how the side will look against more difficult opponents remains to be seen.
It is, of course, far too early to be calling for there to be a change at manager. If, however, England does lose to Serbia, there will be plenty to discuss, and the to-this-point impatient voices would only increase in volume in the event of a defeat on Tuesday.
Overarching view of England
This is not about qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. That is something that is likely to be secured in short order regardless. Instead, the focus and current concern is on what will happen against teams with more quality. Certainly, regardless of how the groups shake out, England would be expected to advance through to the knockout stages. It is known what the ultimate goal actually is, though.
If the attack continues to look pedestrian, one is to think that Tuchel would call on Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins to play with Harry Kane. The Villa striker has the cunningness and skill level that, when paired with Kane in a deeper role, would almost assuredly lead to a great yield for England.
