If the rumor mill is not pushing for the departure of Aston Villa players to leave for other places, then there seemingly does not appear to be much of anything to talk about in media circles. Now, however, the latest alleged move has to do with the Villa boss instead.
According to GiveMeSport's Matt Smith, United would be interested in bringing Emery in the event of Ruben Amorim's removal from the club.
This requires multiple levels of speculation to take place for it to become a reality. For one, Villa would either need to want to move on from Emery, or the Villa boss would have to want to go to a different challenge.
From the club's perspective, it would not at all make sense to move on from Emery. Although Villa have not performed well to this point, it is incredibly difficult to envision a scenario in which the club would even want to consider another option at manager. It is largely recognized, after all, that the club has been placed in a difficult position in an attempt to thwart any continued success. Any change would be difficult for anyone to take over.
Potential way forward for Aston Villa
It is possible that Emery would eventually want to move on after becoming increasingly weary of the limitations. The Villa boss is one of the most determined and steadfast figures in the sport, though. He would rather fight with the team in a Championship campaign than give in to the forces that are making his job more difficult at the moment.
This only truly makes sense from United's perspective. Amorim has his style of play and has made it clear that he will not be shifting away from the 3-4-3. When considering how much change has happened and how much money has been spent, the Portuguese manager could well have his days numbered in Manchester. That does not mean that Emery will be his replacement. The Spaniard is staying at Villa.
