The relegation of Olympique Lyon is a fate that Aston Villa will, of course, want to avoid at all costs. While Ligue 1 showed some initiative and made a decision that ultimately did not protect the status of a storied side in France's top division, the Premier League and FA are entirely different entities altogether.

For now the Villa finances, despite the multitude of reports continuing to hope otherwise, are more than manageable.

Where there would be a potential issue is in how justice would be distributed in the event of Villa being in anything close to a similar situation. As is, it is known that everything will be done at all costs in order to protect the 'big six.'

That same understanding and leeway will never also be afforded toward Villa. Manchester City can have 500-plus looming charges over them. As soon as Villa's wage bill gets higher, then it's the end of the world and the grounds of Villa Park itself become available for others available to purchase.

Although the overall situation surrounding the Villa finances is manageable. It is something that the club will need to tidy up just for the sake of keeping appearances. If given the chance, the powers that be will have zero hesitation in making an example out of the Villans.

Unequal application works against Aston Villa

There are two sets of rules. Ligue 1 just showed that all clubs, even the traditional high achievers, can be subject to a demotion from the top flight. That would undoubtedly be the fate of Villa for something much less significant than what has been witnessed at Lyon. Meanwhile, the Manchester clubs are free to act as they please and go full throttle during each transfer period as they please, without any fear of retribution.

Villa cannot afford to provide an easy opportunity for all of their hard work to just be taken from them through bogus reasoning and a process that would be levied against the club.
