'The Prince of Darkness' has sung his last on stage. After a truly legendary career that spanned over a century, Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath performed at Villa Park for the last 'Back to the Beginning' performance of the music icon. Being able to witness the transformed Aston Villa home serve as home for the singers' last act was nothing short of an incredible culmination for the people in attendance and the people of Birmingham.
Thinking back to 'Paranoid,' 'Crazy Horse,' and some of the other timeless hits, the impact that this group from B6 had on the industry cannot be questioned.
Osbourne was the ideal frontman and personality for what the band needed at the time, and the music that Black Sabbath produced would go on to shape hard rock and metal.
While Osbourne and Black Sabbath had to go their separate ways from time to time, watching the true full circle moment of Osbourne being able to close the show with his Black Sabbath bandmates is a fitting way for the singer to now step away from the mic and enjoy being able to look back on everything that he has accomplished.
The event was a charity concert. With well over £140 million, the local Birmingham Children's Hospital, Acorn's Children's Hospice, and Cure Parkinson's will be the recipients of the successful resulting fundraiser from the concert.
Touching tribute on Aston Villa grounds
All in all, it was an incredible moment of pride for Birmingham. Watching the crowd tearfully sing along to Osbourne's 'Mama, I'm Coming Home' perfectly encapsulates the emotion and magnitude of the evening.
Serving as the setting for this monumental occasion is something that only further adds to the history of the club. The world said farewell to Osbourne as a performer, and they did so with Villa Park on full display.
