There's a lot that can be said for the current Aston Villa center back duo every week. Certainly Pau Torres has done well and managed to come back strong from his injury. It cannot be questioned how Tyrone Mings offers a stabilizing presence back there. Ezri Konsa is a mainstay, but regardless of how anyone views it, AVFC have three great CB options.

What Mings offers is a veteran player who, coincidentally, has helped see his side through to wins every time he steps foot on the pitch. Again, nothing at all against Torres. This team has done an excellent job of providing depth for Unai Emery to select from throughout the entirety of the lineup.

For those who have followed Mings' journey, it's known how incredible it has been for the defender to achieve this level. Having also been called up to the England national team, many would feel safe with a Three Lions backline of Mings and Konsa.

At the end of the day, every team needs someone who can be relied on. In an era that sees many defenders rated highly for aspects that aren't strictly defending, someone like Mings does not receive the proper amount of credit that he deserves.

Possible Aston Villa future for Mings

He is about to enter into a contract year. His current deal expires in 2026. By all accounts, the center back would like to remain with Villa beyond the end of the currently in-place agreement. To have someone who deals with opposing attackers well and has been a steady force in front of Emiliano Martínez, he's not someone that fans should be eager to be moving on from.

Especially if the club continues with the current 'starting 22' approach, Villa will need to maintain more than just two starting-caliber CBs in the squad. Not only does he do well when playing, but he has also shown the ability to sit out of games and seamlessly return even when he isn't part of the lineup for Emery's squad selection.
