When looking at how Aston Villa have operated during the summer transfer window, many are far from shy about expressing their disappointment. It does need to be mentioned, however, that the club is still paying for some of the sins of the prior decision makers.
When then assessing how previous decisions affected the club, it has to be mentioned that Villa have been limited by some of the past decisions in question, as well as the nature of PSR and SCR nowadays.
With this in mind, Villa have clearly made the decision to go all-in on their current squad selections. Instead of choosing to make splash signings, Villa are content to continue the way in which they have gone about building the roster.
The limitations that the club is currently under make it so that Villa cannot act in the way that others do. It can certainly be frustrating to see others spend money without any regard for anything. While others aim to reload their squad, Villa have opted for a different route.
Many would actually enjoy having the roster needed to instill confidence to keep together. Having players able to stick with one club long-term is almost something of a foregone era. Except at Villa, Unai Emery and Monchi are doubling down on the work that has already been done, choosing to re-sign players to lengthy contracts, keeping the corps intact in B6.
Operational approach of Aston Villa
This speaks to the roster building and ability of the club to maintain continuity. While it may not be as appealing or as exciting, it does speak well to how the club is being managed.
Time will tell if the current approach will ultimately continue to pay off in terms of results on the pitch. For now, Villa deserve a tremendous amount of credit for how they have operated when taking all factors into consideration.
