Potential of Nicolas Jackson joining Unai Emery at Aston Villa is not realistic

There have been several silly notions and agendas pushed regarding Aston Villa this summer. Adding to the list is one idea that would see Villa make a large splash, but it would not be helpful in terms of the club's ambitions and goals.

There is something of a push that would see Nicolas Jackson join Villa, only for the club to be forced to get rid of Ollie Watkins. In a vacuum, Unai Emery would very likely enjoy the idea of adding Jackson to his current squad. If doing so, however, requires also letting go of Watkins, then it should be something that is viewed as a complete non-starter.

Watkins is a current, active legend at Villa. Emery and Jackson's past is far from enough to unseat the current club leader in Premier League goals. Instead, it is one of those ideas that could potentially sound good in theory, but that truly does not have merit.

Jackson has improved and was playing well for Chelsea last season. Bringing him on at the expense of losing the chemistry and knowledge of Watkins in the system, though, is simply not worth it.

Reunion at Aston Villa not likely

In the event that Jackson could be brought on without needing to get rid of Watkins, that could be something for Villa to consider looking into. With PSR and SCR, it is unlikely that that would even be a possibility. Operating in a hypothetical for a moment, it would be something that also would not be too likely to work out.

While Jackson and Watkins could potentially both play up top, having both be forced to adjust would be a difficult task to incorporate so late into the preseason preparations.

Emery and Jackson had their fair share of success in the past. The present, however, is still being written for Watkins at Villa, and the ink is still wet on the chapter of his career.
