Recently scoring for Poland, Matty Cash is featured as the Aston Villa right back during club play. On the left-hand side there are two options. Lucas Digne and Ian Maatsen are able to seamlessly interchange in the starting role without Villa seeing a drop-off.
That is not the case at this moment at the RB position. Axel Disasi has played at right back before, but while at Villa, he has looked more comfortable as a center-back option.
Part of the new focus and approach involves having a 'starting 22.' In order to truly encapsulate that, what is seen on the left also needs to hold true on the right. Villa could explore Raoul Bellanova as a potential addition to the squad.
Currently at Atalanta, there is reported Premier League interest for Bellanova. The Italian has only just arrived at the Serie A side, having played at Torino beforehand. Still, in today's transfer environment, everyone is available throughout all leagues. Villa fans in particular know about this, considering that each day the media landscape has a different Villan leaving B6.
Bellanova is a more than competent defender on the outside who can handle the opposing outside players without needing too much immediate support from the center-backs. He also has the needed skill level and is comfortable initiating the attack and taking players on himself without putting possession in jeopardy.
Possibility should be of interest to Aston Villa
It would be an ideal type of player to fit into Emery's system. The Villa boss values having a backline that can make dynamic plays happen and directly contribute to the attack.
Perhaps this summer transfer period is too much for a move to be considered for Bellanova. If not now, Villa should keep an eye on the defender for the next two or three years. He's only 25, and there is a lot to suggest that he would be able to make the transition to the Premier League if Monchi does decide to initiate the transfer at some point.
