It appears that things are amicable enough between Marco Asensio and Aston Villa that a long-term agreement could be reached. Since joining Unai Emery's side on loan from PSG, the Spaniard has performed well and had a lot of great moments to help Villa during the back half of the 2024-2025 campaign.

Now there is an issue of being able to secure Asensio's services for the future. PSG is not trying to prevent a deal from happening. Considering who they have at their disposal in the attacking areas, they seem more than happy to let the Spaniard find a new home while salvaging something for the 29-year-old.

The overall cost for Villa to acquire Asensio does not look to be too high relative to a lot of players during the transfer market season. The Spain international is valued at around €20.00m, though his parent club would likely be willing to accept a lesser amount in order to allow for a deal to happen.

A sticking point would be Asensio's wages. Particularly for Villa, which has too high of a proportion of current expenditures in that area of the squad, acquiring someone who will cost a lot in terms of salary, whether Asensio or anyone else, would need to be carefully considered.

Certainly, if the financial aspects would currently allow for it, Villa would have already likely completed an agreement. Asensio sees eye-to-eye with Emery and has enjoyed an uptick in his career after being cast aside from the Champions League-winning side.

For Asensio, there is no longer a future in Ligue 1 at this point. Depending on other offers that are available for the Spaniard and what else he hopes may come his way, Asensio may be left with a choice.

Staying at Aston Villa remains in play

Continuing at Villa, even for a lesser amount, will allow him to continue to play in a system that he is comfortable with. Being in the squad of a different club could see him paid the same, but he'll have less impact and a lesser role.

It remains to be seen what transpires from what has been, to this point, a quiet summer. Villa should be in a good position once June 30 passes to be able to engage in business as usual. Securing Asensio then could be one of the first moves that occurs when that day comes and goes.
