It has certainly been a difficult start to the season for Aston Villa. One of the main aspects that has been a focus is the lack of goal scoring for Ollie Watkins.

The Villa striker has proven himself at the Premier League level for many years at this point. The lack, however, of overall production from the side and the inability of Villa to generate quality chances and to take advantage of possession in the final third in a meaningful way has often left Watkins being forced to make the most of minimal chances.

In general it is not exactly a secret that the team has struggled from the beginning of this campaign. While Watkins has come under a lot of criticism, the lack of chances and consequently the lack of goals is honestly more of a team reflection in totality versus just something that should be attributed solely to Watkins.

The England International did, however, score a nice goal against Fulham. Sometimes that is all it takes. While the service has not been at the standard rate that one would expect in the Premier League, Watkins, too, has not been able to make the most of his chances when they did come.

Being able to see one go in can sometimes be all that it takes in order for a striker to regain his form.

Needed momentum for Aston Villa

It now remains to be seen how Watkins is able to potentially capitalize off his latest goal. The month of October comes with two good chances for him to continue to play well and potentially build a streak.

Villa will first play against Feyenoord in Europa League and then against the recently promoted Burnley for a Sunday Premier League match. Even if Watkins himself is unable to score in these two fixtures, it is absolutely critical for the immediate future of Villa that he finds himself heavily involved in the attack and is at least part of the goal process in some form.
