This was the exact type of performance that was needed from Aston Villa. While there have been many complaints regarding the start of the campaign, the 3-1 victory against Fulham showed more of what many were expecting following a successful 2024-2025 season.
It certainly wasn't a flawless game, but Villa managed to be on the frontfoot more. For a side that had struggled to score, it was a nice change to see three Villans put one in the back of the net.
Because of how the season has started, ordinarily, even if Villa had not managed to sneak three past Bernd Leno, it was more of the type of display that supporters would want to see, and they would be largely happy with it.
Granted, because of the lack of production, a draw or a win would have been that much more frustrating. That is, however, only due to the nature of the latest run of games in the Premier League. Ordinarily this was the type of ambition and push that would satisfy under usual circumstances.
Now it will be up to Unai Emery to rekindle the magic that could be seen at Villa Park and to make the right moves that ensure that this full end game proves to be far from a one-off.
Reversing trends at Aston Villa
After some early injury misfortune, the side is getting healthier again, and things should look even better once Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana are able to return to the fold.
While it is far from a complete product at the moment, this was unquestionably a step in the right direction for Villa.
