Aston Villa to make a move for Ivan Toney
According to ex-Villa scout Bryan King, Aston Villa are considering a move for Brentford and England striker Ivan Toney.
Toney, who scored a vital penalty during England's penalty shootout win over Switzerland last weekend, is tipped to move to a 'bigger' club this summer and Villa are a club that might look to sign him.
King believes that Villa may use the money raised from the sales of Jhon Duran and Douglas Luiz to invest heavily in a high-profile player that would provide greater quality to their squad ahead of their Champions League efforts next season.
Should the club make a move for Toney, who has 36 goals in 85 Premier League appearances, then Villa would find themselves with two elite-level strikers. Ollie Watkins would likely still start the vast majority of games ahead of Toney or Unai Emery could find a way to play both together.
""If you want to be a top player you need to work hard, constantly reflect and want to learn and then of course you need to have that confidence that he’s got so naturally. He comes across so fantastically: he’s humble, calm, but with a mindset of a lion""
- Thomas Frank
Toney has previously been linked with moves to Arsenal and Manchester United prior to his eight-month ban from football for breaching betting regulations. Toney struggled for form in the final third of last season following his return from the ban, scoring 4 goals in 17 appearances.
