Aston Villa have sent a €2million bid for Elfsborg goalkeeper Hákon Valdimarsson, according to reporter Fabrizio Romano on X.

Unai Emery is keen to lure the stopper to Villa Park this month to bolster his options between the sticks but faces competition from Danish giants FC Copenhagen, who are also said to have lodged an offer.

Valdimarsson, 22, joined Elfsborg back in 2021 and has made the number one spot his own since then over the past two seasons-and-a-half, making 137 appearances in all competitions.

Prior to his move to Borås Arena, he played for Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur and Íþróttafélagið Grótta in his native Iceland. He has made five caps for his country so far in his career.

Aston Villa could see him as ideal long-term competition for Emi Martinez in goal. However, Valdimarsson has a big decision to make regarding his situation as his chances of regular game time ahead of the Argentinian in the Premier League would be slim, whereas at somewhere like Copenhagen he would get more minutes.

Emery's men have a break from the action this weekend and their next game is an FA Cup clash at Stamford Bridge against fellow top flight club Chelsea next Friday.
