Emiliano Martínez was supposed to be the starting keeper for Aston Villa in the Thursday fixture against Feyenoord.

Instead, the Argentina international did not end up seeing the field. Marco Bizot took Martínez's spot in the starting XI and performed rather admirably given the late notice.

This is still leaving questions in the minds of many Villa supporters. The move that nearly saw 'Dibu' go from Villa to Manchester United continues to leave a bad taste in the mouths of the fan base. The saga is leaving so much ill feeling that many would happily agree with the boss if Unai Emery were to simply come out and declare Bizot as the number one option moving forward.

As shared by Birmingham Live's John Townley on X, Martínez is dealing with a calf issue. The full extent of this injury is unknown at this point. There is hope, however, that he will be able to play against Burnley for Sunday's Premier League match.

Still, with the international break coming up, there are many voicing their doubt of his playing against Burnley yet being able to be available for the upcoming Argentina matches.

It is this lack of trust as to Martínez's commitment that is clouding what would otherwise be a non-story from the club.

Depending on what exactly transpires moving forward will determine how Martínez is viewed by the Villa supporters.

Needed signs from Aston Villa keeper

While 'Dibu' had a good return after initially missing a game, this latest development is not exactly helping to ease the tensions and concerns surrounding the keeper. There is the additional aspect that it is believed that Martínez will leave Villa anyway. This is expected to take place in either January or the upcoming summer.

Because of this conventional wisdom, Villa fans will doubt Martínez's focus and level of care for the club until proven otherwise.
