It would be great if teams that are building momentum, like Aston Villa, could simply carry over the roster from one year to the next. Even without PSR, Villa would certainly make a move that would ultimately result in a different cast for next season.
Still, the time spent watching the club of a campaign is draining and leads to emotional investment from supporters. Someone who has played a significant part and played an important role for AVFC will play their last at Villa Park in the claret and blue against Tottenham.
There are some who are about to see their contracts expire; others will have a year remaining, but the club could seek to move them. Then, there is the reality of players wanting to face a new challenge for a variety of reasons.
The extent of the transfer rumors is overblown. Certainly, a lot of the current cast will remain with AVFC through the summer. Someone like Emiliano Martínez, Ollie Watkins, or Leon Bailey will play their last as part of the home team at VP on Friday.
When dealing with the business side of the sport, the resulting moves can often be cruel or unjust, particularly among certain sections of the fans who take a stronger liking to a certain player.
Whatever the future may hold surrounding the contract situations of certain Villans, the efforts and dedication to the badge will always be appreciated by Villa supporters.
One last Aston Villa showing for currently unknown player
Someone like Jacob Ramsey has been throughout up through the academy ranks. It makes it more infuriating when a Villan is forced to leave due to an effort to comply with PSR guidelines.
For all of the difficult changes that have to often be made, it makes it that much more of a shame when someone is forced to leave and forced out of Villa due to a technical bureaucratic aspect.
Still, for one of the Villans, it will be their final moments, applauding in front of the Aston Villa supporters following the full-time whistle against Tottenham. While this season hasn't resulted in silverware, when the trophy does come, whoever was part of this campaign deserves their thanks for the Villan faithful.
