It continues to be incredible as to how the Aston Villa players always seem to find themselves in transfer rumors. At this point it is truly laughable as to how shamelessly a different Villa will be apart of an alleged new destination hot spot, yet here we are.

This time shared by villareport on X, Pau Torres is supposedly the next in line to leave B6. Including the name of someone who is incredibly important for Villa with only a few short weeks remaining until the campaign itself begins, is something that can also be dismissed out of hand.

Certainly, Al-Nassr could very well be looking to bolster their roster with the inclusion of the Spanish defender. This would be a move for Villa that absolutely does not make any sense.

Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa are two quality center-backs. If Villa had to play with them exclusively in a hypothetical scenario, it would not be the end of the world by any stretch. Asking either of the defending duo, however, to shoulder the responsibility of all of the matches through all competitions is simply asking too much.

As is, Mings has already gone above and beyond by returning back from injury, realistically prior to when he should have. This illustrates the point. Players will go through periods of time throughout the season in which they are unable to step foot on the pitch. Expecting the same center-back duo to be out there for all 90 minutes each time is only asking for something bad to happen.

Modern-day clubs need to have three starting quality options at CB.

Looking at other Aston Villa options

Someone like Yasin Özcan or Lamare Bogarde could step in in the potential actual departure of Torres. These are unproven Premier League players, however, at this stage in their careers to trust with a full stretch of games as a regular starter.

Perhaps more importantly, Unai Emery has a known affinity for how Torres plays in the backline. The Villa boss would be the absolute last person to want to even entertain a departure from the club. This rumor too can be ignored.
