There are any number of Aston Villa players who would receive a significant amount of outpouring from the fan base when they do eventually leave the club.

Arguably one of the current Villans who would receive a great amount of emotion from the supporters would be John McGinn. His work can go unnoticed by those who are not truly paying attention or who only focus on who ultimately scores. Yes, the actual person who puts the ball in the back of the net is important.

Getting the ball in the advanced areas takes a different type of work. Doing the legwork can involve an effort that often goes without the deserved amount of appreciation.

During the preseason friendly against St. Louis City SC, it was his involvement during the first goal that epitomized what the Scotland international offers on the pitch.

McGinn has great importance for Aston Villa

His work rate and off-ball IQ often see McGinn winning the ball back. The 13th minute saw the midfielder positioned where he needed to be in a position to put pressure on the ball in the event of a completed pass. To his fortune, his intervention and being able to take advantage of a short pass led to his winning the ball back and getting it to Morgan Rogers, who ended up being on the receiving end of the final pass before scoring himself.

It is the sort of thing that one would ideally see from everyone. As is known, however, this is far from the case. A lot of players elect to switch off at certain points throughout the match and will not be able to take advantage of a temporary lapse.

Watching McGinn and how he makes it so that he can make direct impact plays within the match is something that needs to be cherished for as long as he remains in the claret and blue.
