Having the need for more Aston Villa players to get involved in the goal-scoring

Having goal involvements from multiple players is important for Aston Villa as it would be for any other club. While having Ollie Watkins is incredibly valuable, for instance, anything can happen throughout the course of a campaign.

Every club will have their main go-to person to look for to score goals. Being overly dependent on one person, however, is a risky proposition.

First of all, injuries can happen at any point. Having Watkins on the side is a luxury. There is also the need to have a contingency plan in the event of the worst-case scenario happening to the England international.

Perhaps even more importantly, without being as grim in thought, the run of play from Villa needs to give multiple players the opportunity to be able to score within the flow of the game.

There should not be a case in which only the striker is the one that sees the lion's share of goal-scoring chances. For Villa to be successful, the club will need to see more opportunities come to others and see those placed within the system and flow of the attack to then convert.

Looking beyond the positives for Aston Villa

It is a legitimate point of concern if only Watkins and Morgan Rogers were to remain the only players on the squad to score more than 10 goals this season. More likely than not, someone else and/or, collectively, others will be able to step up.
Even if someone does not necessarily put one in the back of the net, seeing players in better positions more often is something that will be needed once the actual season begins.

During the preseason, in which there can be a lot of overreactions and overanalyzing, this is something important to continue to monitor. Villa will face Nashville SC and Roma next during the summer friendlies. Seeing how they potentially get others into more advantageous positions could be something important for supporters to monitor.
