It is rarely, if ever, truly known what is going on behind the scenes when it comes to the inner workings of a club. Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey is believed to be viewed as a candidate for Villa to sell.
With the club offering the academy product a new deal, there appears to not be an imminent signature, as to this point all that has been reported is the fact that Villa have offered Ramsey a new contract.
The exact nature of the holdup is unknown, but it is safe to assume, however, that if an agreement is not reached after too much longer, then Villa will need to actively attempt to find someone else who would be willing to pay for Ramsey to leave B6.
The possible point of contention could very well not be whatever amount Villa are offering in terms of salary. Instead, it is possible that Ramsey simply wishes to find a new situation himself, as he is someone who is looking to earn an England call-up under Thomas Tuchel, particularly with the World Cup right around the corner.
Potential options beyond Aston Villa
Either way, a decision will have to be made here shortly. Villa have shown the willingness to want to extend those already on the squad. This makes it so that the club are clearly attempting to deal in honest discussions with their players. The aim is to maintain the current grouping of players together while maintaining continuity.
Newcastle United are reportedly among the clubs that have expressed interest. Watching Ramsey leave Villa would be something that looks and feels odd. In today's game, however, there tends to be less and less room for feel-good stories to remain intact for too long. For Villa fans, they will, for the most part, hope to see Ramsey agree to a new deal that keeps him in B6 for a long time to come.
