There are a number of considerations when it comes to moving matches. The Aston Villa fixture against Crystal Palace has now been officially moved from Saturday, August 30, to Sunday, August 31, at 7pm.
This move was going to be needed by nature of Palace playing in the UEFA Europa Conference League Qualifying Round on Thursday, August 28. Expecting a side to have less than a 48-hour turnaround from their European return leg fixture would be asking a little much.
To have the rescheduled match be for a Sunday evening shows once again the lack of concern for supporters and the accommodations that fans have to plan ahead of time in order to provide the needed atmosphere to make something a true EPL environment.
It has to also be remembered that in the past when Villa have asked for accommodations to have a match moved for similar reasons, the governing bodies refused to give Villa a similar benefit in the schedule.
While it does make sense to have the previously scheduled fixture moved, the day and time that were chosen are certainly odd. If the situation was reversed, it is highly doubtful, though, that Villa would have also received the same amount of grace.
Flying in the face of progress against Aston Villa
Villa will continue not to be the beneficiary of any decisions or systemic aspects. Instead, Villa will continue to have to overcome aspects that are stacked against them, even when others receive the direct benefit of other outside choices that are made, which invariably assist in their cause to win.
This is yet the latest example of how many aspects line up against Villa. Keep in mind how all of these singular events add up and make it so that the club is always facing a significantly high obstacle toward achieving success.
