It may be something of a pointless waste of energy to expect everyone else to treat Aston Villa players in a similar manner as everyone else. There continues to be an insistence on making it so that any and all Villans are readily available for the use of others to pick up and add to their squad.
The Villa player du jour at the moment is Ollie Watkins. When looking at FPL Frasier on X, for example, there is an unquestioned belief that Watkins wants to leave Villa and join Manchester United. According to many opinions, such as the account in question, the striker is actively looking for a different club and is eager to join Ruben Amorim's side.
Set aside that it would, objectively, be a step back in terms of where the two teams are at the moment on the pitch. The price tag in question in such discussions is often at a completely ridiculous level.
It is, of course, possible that Watkins will want to leave Villa one day. After a while, everyone tends to require a change of scenery. In the event of that happening, Villa will not need to just sell a player for any lowball offer simply by nature of being the perceived smaller club.
Needed value for Aston Villa player
Watkins has a great deal of value. In a sport in which the aim is to score and produce goals, Watkins is a proven Premier League commodity.
When then looking at the price that others around the league are going for, it is not at all unreasonable for Villa to have an initial asking price set closer to £100m, as opposed to what is often being shared in reports and blog pieces.
Especially at the moment, if Watkins does end up leaving Villa, the club needs to do right by itself and ensure that Watkins garners the appropriate amount for a top-level striker, especially when looking at how rare it is to find someone at his position.
