A lot of attention has been on the nature of the late transfer deadline developments of Emiliano Martínez. This was especially highlighted following the Argentina international's exclusion from the matchday squad against Crystal Palace.

As things stand now, Aston Villa supporters will find it difficult to move on from this latest saga. Certainly, before the final days of August, 'Dibu' had earned plenty of admiration. He could have conceivably done anything and would have still received the full support of the fan base. The way, however, in which this near-move was nearly pulled off at the last moment has soured the perception of Martínez for many.

The Athletic has now reported that Martínez is slated to return to the club following the international break. According to the post, the keeper is expected to rejoin the squad in a full capacity. Perhaps this could have been assumed. After all, the move did not transpire, and he is still on the roster. For one, Villa is still paying him. Permanently sitting Martínez was likely never going to be an option. Regardless of his potential current desire to still leave the club, Martínez is the world's number one.

Progressing further at Aston Villa

From Martínez's perspective, it would not make sense to sit out and only train. He will still want to stay sharp and would likely want to make an impression, even if it is for his next club later on.

Among the players, it will remain to be seen how the series of events will affect things in the dressing room. It will ultimately come down to how the players react to Martínez's return. It appears that the club is more than happy to move on from the transfer that almost transpired. Most likely, the Villans will be happy to move on with the current campaign in the hopes of showing improvement quickly. Sometimes, though, these types of situations can lead to lingering ill will in a team dynamic.
