It has not been the easiest of times for Emiliano Buendía at Aston Villa over the past couple of seasons. Unfortunately for him, injuries have prevented him from being able to truly showcase his abilities and contribute to the team.
After enjoying a loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen this past campaign, many believe that he could be a prime candidate to be sold by the club in order to comply with the PSR regulations.
Considering where Buendía is in his career and with the business aspect in mind, a fresh start could potentially prove to be hugely beneficial for the Villa midfielder. Certainly, in a vacuum, one would think that Unai Emery would enjoy the idea of continuing to include him in the plans of this squad.
That is not always a realistic expectation, and a lot simply points toward the inevitable exit of Buendía from B6.
Even so, it was nice to hear Buendía speak on how much his time at Villa has meant to him and how he has enjoyed being a part of this side.
Gratitude for what is in place at Aston Villa
As shared by Dan Bardell on X, Buendía spoke with Talk Norwich City's Chris Reeve about how he has experienced being a member of Villa since his arrival from the Canaries.
The midfielder elaborated:
"From the beginning I felt good and important for the club, for the team... When Unai Emery came to the club, I think we understand each other, and I was having probably my best time in terms of football at the club."
Buendía would go on to share his appreciation for what Emery has shown him and noted how the Villa boss' high demands make it so that he has learned a lot. Listening to the Argentine, there is an appreciation for how training and team activities are handled by Villa.
It is unknown what the current market for Buendía is or where he will end up playing this year. His words should help to show why Emery is unquestionably the right man for the job at Villa and should also speak to the type of person a side gets with Buendía in the dressing room, regardless of where he ends up playing for the 2025-2026 campaign.
