It has taken a great deal of perseverance for Ellie Roebuck to still be a professional player. Now signed with Aston Villa Women, the keeper will be looking to contribute to Natalia Arroyo's side and will bring a great sense of appreciation for the work rate that is needed on a daily basis in order to compete in the WSL.

This move marks a return to England for Roebuck, who spent her past season at Barcelona. Before then, the keeper could be seen at Manchester City. There was, however, a gap from her time in Manchester to her time in Barcelona. An illness that had caused a stroke to Roebuck prevented her from being able to play in matches.

Before moving to Spain, it had been over a year since Roebuck was able to last play in a match due to the stroke. Fortunately for her and her long-term health, there are no prolonged aftereffects from the incident. Her focus from then, as it is now, is continuing to do what's needed to be in top form and ready to keep a clean sheet for her side.

It has to be remembered, prior to Roebuck's immediate health concerns, the keeper was one of the top in the world at her position. With City, she showcased her ability to make top-notch saves as well as her confidence on the ball, giving her side effectively 11 field players. A former WSL Golden Glove award winner, when she is at the top of her game, she can offer a lot on the pitch.

New club and possibilities with Aston Villa Women

Now, Roebuck has made the move to Villa. She and Sabrina D'Angelo will push each other every day. From Roebuck's perspective, the keeper will be looking to earn the starting role. Regardless of how many times she ends up seeing the pitch this upcoming season, having someone with Roebuck's story and quality on the team can only help.

It is safe to say that with Roebuck and D'Angelo as Villa keepers, Arroyo may very well have the best GK unit in the WSL.
