Aston Villa supporters eagerly await some positive news. At this point, the introduction of any new player to the squad would be welcomed. While he may not be the name who was initially on people's radar, Victor Lindelöf is set to join Unai Emery's side, as reported by The Athletic's Jacob Tanswell.

The Sweden international is a center-back who has a lot of Premier League experience as a now-former Manchester United man. Lindelöf, although talks are not completely finalized yet, is set to join the club on a free transfer.

Certainly that position is more than set with Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings, and Pau Torres. Still, adding something to Lindelöf's resume can only help. Especially if Villa are able to go far across several competitions as they were able to last season, having an extra capable body who can fill in at the CB role will be needed.

Adding Lindelöf gives Emery an additional option of someone who is tenacious and who can be trusted along the backline. Especially when considering the restrictions that the club is currently under with PSR and SCR, this is the type of move that is needed that still supplies depth while staying under the set threshold to avoid any further trouble.

Smart addition for Aston Villa

With the deadline approaching and other deals appearing not to be able to come to fruition, this could end up as the sole move that occurs at the last moment before the transfer period ends.

What is more, because of the price tag, this still gives Villa the flexibility to still solidify a late deal for a more attacking player. If nothing else, this adds someone else to the backline while keeping the financial situation where it needs to be for potential January additions for Villa.
