There can be some debate around what Aston Villa need now. What is absolutely not up for discussion is how helpful the additions of Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford were this past season for Villa.

Transfer News Live shared on X that PSG and Villa are close to an agreement for the attacking midfielder. With the Ligue 1 side valuing the Spaniard at €20M, Villa have made an offer for €15M, according to the post.

As should be evident, the two sides are fairly close, and something is expected to be agreed upon before the deadline.

There are some voices among Villa supporters who have expressed their lack of desire to add Asensio. For some, the price tag is too high. When, however, looking around the Premier League and the rest of Europe, players who are far less proven and around the same age are going for significantly more.

The true sticking point would end up being Asensio's wages. While not looking to look too deep into the financials of another man, it is possible when considering how the past campaign went for the Spaniard that he would consider restructuring his contract in order to remain at Villa.

Possibility to aid in Aston Villa return

Sure, the salary is what ultimately resulted in the agreement with Fenerbahçe falling through, as the player and club could not agree to personal terms. Asensio, though, does not have any history with the Süper Lig side. He does have a good relationship with Unai Emery and had a good spell at Villa.

He will, of course, know and understand the current financial situation at Villa. If he wants to rejoin the squad, it is certainly possible that he will be willing to take a haircut or modified deal in order to be in the claret and blue again.
