It has been a fantastic end to the season for Aston Villa Women. In the center of it, playing in the midfield engine, has been Missy Bo Kearns. Arriving from Liverpool before the beginning of last season, she has done extremely well with her new club.
In some excellent news for the Villa midfielder, Kearns has been named to the Three Lionesses squad. She will join a roster with a number of capable England players, such as Grace Clinton, Ella Toone, and Jess Park.
Considering the form the Villans have been in and her consistent presence in the vital part of the pitch, it doesn't come as any surprise to see Kearns' name included in the selection.
Particularly under Natalia Arroyo, Kearns has been one of the key reasons why AVWFC have been able to rattle off five successive wins. Between working back defensively and then initiating the attack, it's very easy to see why Sarina Wiegman is turning to the 24-year-old.
England will now prepare for their pair of Nations League fixtures. Currently sitting second in Group A3, they are two points behind Spain with seven total points at the moment. On May 30th they will face Portugal. That fixture is set to take place at Wembley. Then on June 3rd, they will travel to Spain.
Possibility of looking forward this summer for Aston Villa Women player
These matches also serve the purpose of being something of a tune-up before the upcoming Euros that will take place in Switzerland this summer. Being an England international, there are always several good options for any manager to choose from throughout the squad. Kearns came to Villa in part to show that she can be a reliable, consistent 90-minute player and had her sights on being called up and making a senior cap for the Lionesses.
A good showing against Portugal and, particularly, a good team like Spain would go a long way in securing her spot in the upcoming summer competition for her national team.
