It simply had to be the case. Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers won the designation from the PFA of being selected as the Young Player of the Year recipient.

Others on the shortlist included Liam Delap, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Ethan Nwaneri. Not that the others are not going to go on and have successful careers in the Premier League, but Rogers has clearly already separated himself from those in his age range. Instead, he has long ago entered conversations in which he is being compared to some of the best players in the EPL at his position as a whole.

There is something to be said for Rogers receiving this recognition and honor. Perhaps there is still an element of objectivity in the sport and among those who make decisions. Luckily for Rogers, this was something of a simple choice, and going with anyone else would have looked very much out of place.

Now in the company of the likes of Ashley Young and James Milner, Rogers will look to continue to further build on what he has already accomplished to this point in his already dynamic career.

Rogers has fantastic skills on the ball and the needed vision to pick out a pass to a Villa teammate in an advantageous position. Combine his skill level with impressive tactical knowledge, and Villa have a legitimate Premier League superstar in the making.

Only the beginning for Aston Villa youngster

At 23, Rogers is far from reaching his full potential as a player. If he continues to improve and work in Unai Emery's system, the sky is the limit as to what the midfielder can achieve in the EPL.

How others will interpret his winning of this award is to be determined. It is, however, a pleasant source of good news for a Villa fan base that has been looking for something to be excited about.
