Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey snubbed when assessing latest England squad

There is a lot to take from the latest England squad named by Thomas Tuchel. Three Aston Villa players made the cut: Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa, and Morgan Rogers. Overall, the side seems to lack the needed punch if this were to be the roster that competes against one of the top sides in the world.

Granted, for the upcoming World Cup qualifier and friendly, the Three Lions will not need to be. Still, the lack of convincing firepower throughout the entirety of the roster, particularly in the midfield and up top, does give an avenue for a Villan not named Marcus Rashford, who was left out.

Jacob Ramsey has a right to feel hard done by. To name some players he could have easily replaced from those named by Thomas Tuchel: Jordan Henderson, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka, and Ivan Toney. A legitimate argument could also be made for leaving Jude Bellingham out, but the four players previously mentioned would obviously receive less backlash and debate from most compared to the Real Madrid midfielder.

In either event, whether due to injury or level of competition, Ramsey made a much clearer case to be named to this Three Lions squad.

Given the situation at Villa, Ramsey may not receive the minutes that would be expected of an international call-up member, but people must also recognize that there is a unique situation at AVFC.

When Ramsey does come on the pitch, he shows his quality. Of course, he'll have off games; everyone does. On the whole, in the positions that he has been put in and his willingness to be a part of a club's plans that do not always feature him, that should be something that actually goes in his favor.

National teams need someone who can come off the bench or play in spot minutes and provide the spark. For players who are often used to being the assumed starter throughout all competitions, that can be a difficult transition.

Deserved consideration at a minimum for Aston Villa player

Ramsey, however, has shown that he can still be effective and part of a good attack while giving the needed effort that would be required of someone in that position.

The Villan may not have been part of Tuchel's plans for May. Considering who was and what the other players have looked like this season, it is safe to say that Ramsey is closer than not to receiving an international call-up in the upcoming months.
