For all of the activity that has happened this summer, Aston Villa boss Unai Emery appears to be ready to move on from the near-move of Emiliano Martínez. The Villa keeper appeared to be remaining in B6 despite a number of claims that had him leaving for one reason or another.
Yet, despite the likely stay of 'Dibu,' at the last moment, there was a lot of generated momentum that did nearly see him leave Villa for Manchester United. The two clubs, however, could not agree on a price tag, and United went in a different direction.
This leaves Martínez in the claret and blue even after having a clear desire to leave and nearly seeing his wished-for move come to fruition.
As shared by Birmingham Live's John Townley, though, Emery is not only happy that Martínez is staying, but he also does not have anything resembling ill will toward the keeper. From the Villa manager's perspective, these types of activities nearly happen quite frequently at clubs throughout Europe. For him, continuing to cling to any feelings of resentment is not helpful now.
Most importantly, even after not being a part of the matchday squad against Crystal Palace, Martínez is continuing to train as he always has and is adamant about his desire to play well for Villa, according to Emery.
Perception among Aston Villa supporters
While supporters will want to see it from Martínez directly, this is the type of effort and renewed spirit that will need to be seen from the Argentina international. The fear, for some, is the concern that Martínez could be openly unhappy about not ultimately going to United, potentially affecting his play at Villa and the inner chemistry in the dressing room.
So far, however, it looks like this is far from a concern. There are, of course, quite a few Villa supporters who would only be too happy to have Marco Bizot starting in net. Given a little time and a couple of good performances, supporters of this view are likely to find grace for Martínez, as Emery is currently showing with Premier League play set to resume.
