It is clear why Unai Emery brought Àlex Moreno to Aston Villa. At his peak the left-back provides a dynamic presence in the attack. Unfortunately for him, injuries ultimately held him back and prevented him from building on what looked to be a promising start in B6.

Now, Moreno is set to join Girona.

Being added to the La Liga side gives Moreno the chance to rebuild his career and once again show why many were excited to see him come to the Premier League.

After spending time at Nottingham Forest this past season on loan and looking at the left-back situation with Ian Maatsen and Lucas Digne, it became increasingly clear that there would not be a future for Moreno at Villa for too much longer.

The exact nature of the details of the pending deal between the two clubs is not quite set as of yet. Foot Mercato's Santi Aouna has reported, though, that personal terms have been agreed to between the player and Girona.

Moving on from Aston Villa

For Villa, it would be most helpful if the left-back joined the La Liga side outright, rather than as a loan deal, which would still have Villa forking the bill for at least part of the wages. That is a frustrating and important part of the game nowadays. Anymore, Villa have to make certain that all moves also help the club to comply with PSR and SCR.

In any event, it is a certainty that Moreno will be playing in Spain after initially joining the claret and blue from Real Betis. From the perspective of Villa supporters, there is far from anything resembling malice or ill will toward Moreno. Instead, fans will wish the best for him. Things did not work out as planned at Villa, but there is nothing but good wishes for the left-back's future and continued success at his new home.
