New reports are saying that F.C. Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany will stay at the club this summer. Two weeks ago, Alemany had said he would be leaving Catalonia this June, but he is reportedly backtracking on these statements.
According to Barcelona economic VP Eduard Romeo, Alemany had received a sensational offer from Aston Villa, but he has now fallen out of the deal. The Spaniard has been at the Camp Nou for two years, and he wishes to keep working on the club’s poor financial situation.
Transfer rumors had linked the Villans to Barca winger Ferran Torres, but the transfer may fall out due to Alemany’s decision. Barca are trying to keep together their front office despite heavy debts, and are bringing in former midfielder Deco to work alongside Alemany this summer.
Aston Villa will have to search for a new face to pair with Unai Emery this summer.
Alemany had visited Birmingham last week to meet with club officials, but has since changed his mind. AVFC had offered a lucrative contract to the 60-year-old to convince him to switch clubs, but after talking with Barca president Joan Laporta he has faltered out of his agreement with Villa.
With Alemany expected to stay in Barcelona, a new vacancy opens up with the Lions in Birmingham. Expect club owners NSWE to search for a new face to partner with manager Unai Emery to ensure success for the next Premier League season.
