The EFL recently announced its shortlist for player awards as well as its Teams of the Season. Congratulations to Aston Villa pair Albert Adomah and John Terry for nomination into EFL Championship Team of the Year!

Aston Villa was well represented in the EFL’s annual awards shortlist revealed on Monday. Albert Adomah and John Terry comprised 2/11 total players in the Championship Team of the Year. Complete list shown here.

Championship Team of the Season:

GK – John Ruddy, Wolverhampton Wanderers

RB – Ryan Fredericks, Fulham

CB – John Terry, Aston Villa

CB – Conor Coady, Wolverhampton Wanderers

LB – Ryan Sessegnon, Fulham

DM – Ruben Neves, Wolverhampton Wanderers

MF – Tom Cairney, Fulham

MF – James Maddison, Norwich City

FW – Albert Adomah, Aston Villa

FW – Bobby Reid, Bristol City

FW – Matej Vydra, Derby County

A bit too heavy on the top-three sides and a few glaring omissions (Diogo Jota, hello?!). Terry making it over James Chester, too, is a bit of a head-scratcher. Still, full credit to the EFL for making an actual team out of the Team of the Season. Most renditions of these you’ll find a back three with no fullbacks, a five-man “midfield” full of wingers, and a front three of the year’s top goalscorers.

Ryan Sessegnon swept the nominee shortlist. Not only is he in the EFL Championship Team of the Season, but he also was nominated for: LFE Apprentice of the Year, EA Sports Young Player of the Season, and Sky Bet Championship Player of the Season (alongside Neves and Cairney).

Neil Warnock was named Manager of the Year, while Adam Reach’s volley against the Villa was voted one of the top-five goals on the year. Congratulations to all, but especially Albert and John!
