4. ST/SS – Ross McCormack, 30

This will be an unpopular opinion, but there is no easier answer to Villa’s scoring problems than a fit & firing Ross McCormack. Hell, he’s already on the books.

More from Claret Villans

McCormack struggled mightily with his fitness all season, often looking exhausted mid-match. The former Scotland international found the net just four times this Championship season (three at Villa, one on-loan at Nottingham Forest).

McCormack’s second-division pedigree is not one to overlook. When the forward operates underneath a central striker, he can be deadly in front of net. The question remains: can Steve Bruce and Ross make amends after a terrible media falling out? That ship may have sailed, but the two sides must at least try.

Villa will not be able to recoup the £10 million+ they paid for McCormack unless the forward becomes productive again.

That starts at the training ground with an improved focus on fitness.
