International duty gives Aston Villa supporters a chance to hear from players during a time of year when fans otherwise wouldn't. Instead of enjoying a holiday, some, like Youri Tielemans, are getting ready with their national team for the respective fixtures.
The Belgian's contract at Villa is set to expire in 2027. With two years remaining, this is typically seen as a good time to, at the very least, start making serious progress toward a contract negotiation.
It is clear how much Tielemans has come to mean to the club since his arrival from Leicester City. In terms of overall importance in the Unai Emery system and his ironman streak, he is arguably the most valuable player to his team in all of the Premier League.
This current summer has seen Tielemans' name in the transfer rumor headlines. A move to a Saudi League side will likely always be an option for the midfielder in all likelihood. Other teams throughout Europe would unequivocally grab the chance to add him to their roster.
For Villa, letting Tielemans go cannot happen. Anything can happen in the business world of the sport. As things stand now, there is a lot indicating that he and the club will amicably enter the negotiating table and find a way to get a deal done.
Speaking directly on Aston Villa future
During his time with the Belgium team, Tielemans was asked about his future with the club. He shared his current thoughts on the topic as shared by Total Villa on X:
"I was constantly at a very high level and was very involved in Villa’s game. I’ve made progress in all areas. Does that make me think about a transfer? Nothing is ruled out, but I’m not really thinking about that."
At this point, there is not a need for him to outright say that he will always remain at Villa no matter what. Firstly, this is never a certainty anyway. And second of all, Tielemans has a right and should not receive criticism for making a statement that allows him to enter the potential negotiating table on the best foot possible for his interests.
Overall, this is a positive statement, and assuming something shocking does not occur, Tielemans will be signing an extension at some point.
