A change that will impact the viewing experience of Aston Villa and all Premier League fans alike is the inclusion of increased interview access. Among the announced changes, questions will be asked at halftime, once players are subbed off, and there will be cameras in the dressing room areas.
This is a phenomenon that can be seen more regularly during American sports. Even among that fan base, there are little to zero advocates to continue the practice of interviewing a coach or manager during a game itself. Most would rather have it so that they can focus on whatever aspect that they need to address next. Spending some time to give what will undoubtedly be an unsatisfactory answer is not something that too many are ever enthusiastic about.
Adding the asking of questions to players who have just been subbed off is only asking for trouble. During the flow and emotions of a match, there is rarely a time in which a player will want a microphone in their face after being replaced. An exception may be after scoring a hat trick and to an ovation. Other than that, most want to be left alone in that moment and will have zero desire to answer anything; the likelihood of this becoming something vulgar is only too predictable.
Ensuring nothing tactical is shown from Aston Villa dressing room
Finally, dressing room access is more of the same. It will depend on how it's implemented. During the broadcasts for American sports, anything tactical or that would actually provide any sort of advantage is left out. Typically, they will only show brief clips of the coach saying something motivational that anyone would be able to guess. In other words, they do make it a point to omit anything that they would not want to be released. Still, making sure that that continues and avoiding any slipups is something that will have to be monitored.
All in all, these are unneeded changes, and there is little to be gained from any of this. Although, maybe it would have been nice to put a microphone in front of Emery after the disallowed Aston Villa goal from the last match against Manchester United.
