Unai Emery has guided Aston Villa to great heights. Especially when considering the number of obstacles that have been placed in the club's way, it makes the accomplishments of the Spaniard that much more impressive since his arrival at B6.

Most notably, though, while there has not been any addition to the silverware cabinet, the club's supporters have dared to believe that it is indeed possible for Villa to usurp the established 'big six' viewpoint.

It should have been known, however, that this order would not go down without a fight. Selective enforcement of the rules that have been set up to maintain the status quo has harmed Villa tremendously. This aspect has been particularly noticeable during the most recent summer transfer window.

For any Star Wars fans out there, the Empire did indeed strike back.

It should not then come as a surprise that it is taking Villa a little bit more time than what would usually be expected to adjust. Yes, the continuity from the past campaign's squad should have had a more positive effect on Villa's efforts.

It appears, though, that the mental fog of the unknown aspects regarding the club's activities continues to overshadow the side at Bodymoor. This includes the late developments that nearly saw Emiliano Martínez leave for Manchester United.

Now, Unai Emery faces the task of trying to incorporate players who have joined the squad with matches having already been played in the season.

Evidence of continued struggles despite Aston Villa additions

As could be seen during the Carabao Cup match against Brentford, even with the recent arrivals on the pitch, things look far from a finished product. The introduction of new bodies has not provided the needed boost as of yet, nor should that have been the expectation anyway.

There are multiple points of consideration to take into account. Those in positions of decision-making at Villa can be trusted, though, to steady the ship for the side.
